Outdoor & Outings
Children in Early Years benefit from time spent learning through playing outside, whatever the weather. We provide all year round wet weather suits to ensure whatever the weather the children get access to outdoor play. This influences the progress they make, particularly in their personal, social, emotional and physical development as well as their communication skills.
The Early Years Foundation Stage states:
- ‘Being outdoors has a positive impact on children's sense of well-being and helps all aspects of children's development.
- Being outdoors offers opportunities for doing things in different ways and on different scales than when indoors.
- It gives children first-hand contact with weather, seasons and the natural world.
- Outdoor environments offer children freedom to explore, use their senses, and be physically active and exuberant.’
At Tiny Town we ensure that every child has access to the outdoor area and that resources are readily available to support holistic development. Resources from inside can be shared outdoors and areas are set aside for large physical movement.
Making visits to local shops, banks, post office, library, parks, woodland, estates, places of worship and common land is important for our children to gain a sense of space and community. Frequent use of local areas provides opportunities for the children to explore outside of their nursery environment therefore offering diverse learning and development experiences.
